July General Meeting postponed ’til Saturday, July 13th

Okay, okay, we get the message..!

Please plan to join your fellow St LAC members at the home of Danby Crowder for round two of Pimp My Honda.  As usual, there’ll be a BBQ, a chance to enhance/show off your mechanic skills and visit with the faithful.

So why not find out more about the new/additional logo, spin a wrench and enjoy a burger all brought to you by your famously low membership fee!
When:  Saturday, July 13th, 09h30
Where:  657 Simmons Rd,  Odessa

Local boy makes good

In the third and final G90 race at the Annual VARAC Festival of Speed held on the Fathers’ Day weekend, St LAC’s very own Rob Metcalfe produced a 1st place finish.  As a result, he’s being kicked upstairs to a higher category.

Inaugural Grand Bend Festival of Speed Sept 7 and 8, 2019

Plan to attend the inaugural Grand Bend Festival of Speed Sept 7 and 8, 2019

The entry fee is $25 per person paid to the event – no fee to run your car.  They’d like pre 1980 racing cars, the older the better.  VARAC has purchased 4 30 minutes track sessions on each of Saturday and Sunday.  The track is limited to 15 cars at a time.  Point to pass.  The event includes a car show and other activities that we are welcome to participate in – more information will be posted once it becomes available.  I believe camping is available at the Grand Bend Motorplex, or arrange for your own accommodations in town.

Lots of lapping

Mark your calendars.  There’s evening lapping to be had at Shannonville July 1, July 15, August 5, August 19.  For those who prefer Mix ‘n’ Madge, plan to attend July 5, 2019 – evening only
August 16, 2019 – evening only
August 30, 2019 – evening only.  Check the Events Calendar for more information.

Rumour has it the Porsche Lowencash car will make an appearance if the latest part arrives in time.  Watch this space…

It made it!  And after an amazing whole three laps it went wonky again.  Sniff, but as my grandparents’, fellow-countryman liked to say, “I’ll be back”.

Picton Last Chance Auto financials

It’s surprising how much it costs to operate a club such as St LAC.  Each year we have to register the club with three sport governing bodies (see upper right of our home page), purchase insurance for the club and its executive, hold meetings, take care of equipment and more.  Sadly, membership and a handful of supporters alone (it’s only $100, hint, hint), can’t get the job done.  Enter the May Picton Regionals.  Here’s how we did:

Call for St LAC member to serve as RallySport Ontario representative

Do you dream about seeing your name in the Minutes of Meeting?  Does the idea of International travel (but not likely) get the juices flowing?  Well you, too, can be a member of RallySport Ontario’s Intelligentsia.

What do you have to do?  Take part in the occasional telephone conference call and report back to the club.  And, yes, there is an annual meeting for such reps.

You can tell us how important this is to you by sending a note to st.lac.club@gmail.com

Welcoming a new supporter: Len Corcoran Excavating

RACING TO THE FUTURE

At Len Corcoran’s Excavating, they like to put people before profit.  But did you know that this was all made possible because of a love of racing?  Len Corcoran was making about $35 a week operating a bulldozer for an excavating company located just north of Kingston. At night, he made that much and more driving a race car on the local circuit. With the money he made racing cars, Len was able to break free from his employer, buy his own bulldozer and begin a venture that has grown, changed and prospered for more than five and a half decades.

ADDITIONAL CHARITY WORK

Len Corcoran Excavation has supported various charities and causes for the last 20 years. Notable initiatives include sponsoring a team in the Limestone Classic Hockey event (2010 Feb Fest at Springer Market Square), competing in the One Lap for Cancer Research and the Cannonball One Lap of America motor-sports events raising in excess of $500,000 for cancer research, and participating in live & silent auctions to support B’nai Brith and other charities. LCE continues to support the Kingston Partners for a Safe Community Safety Group, promoting safe jobsites, information jobsites, information exchange and peer tutoring with the goal of making Kingston a safer place to live work and play.

And now they can add St LAC to the fold.  Thanks to the generosity of Dan Corcoran the club was able to purchase the Honda CRX Si racing car that will serve to teach would-be racers and help expand the ranks of automobile racers in our area.
